A look at health care in 2009: Swine flu creates a scare

A pandemic flu known as the swine flu dominated the conversations of people in Merced County in 2009.

The H1N1 viral strain of influenza is called the swine flu because initial testing showed many of the genes in the virus were similar to influenza viruses normally occurring in North American swine.
